Gunshot Residue Analysis (GSR) and GSR Consultation

Gunshot Residue Analysis (GSR) is conducted employing the
protocols used by the FBI laboratory.

Specifically, after microscopic examination of the evidence garment I analyze for the presence of nitrites (a combustion product of the burning of smokeless gunpowder) using the modified Griess Test, and for the presence of elemental vaporous lead using the Sodium Rhodizonate Test.

An analysis of these gunshot residues helps to establish the distance or range of fire within certain distances from the muzzle of the discharging firearm. Interpretation of these residues and their meaning to the shooting incident is an area where I have vast experience. Additionally, because of my background and experience I am able to provide consultation and interpretation of the analysis of primer residues (barium, antimony, and lead).
